If you are using the command line, this command will download and configure the library in your local environment:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><em>pip install python-wordpress-xmlrpc<\/em><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Importing_The_Required_Classes_From_wordpress-xmlrpc\"><\/span>Importing The Required Classes From wordpress-xmlrpc<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the top of  your Python script, you need to import several classes from the xmlrpc library:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>from wordpress_xmlrpc import Client, WordPressPost\n\nfrom wordpress_xmlrpc.methods.posts import NewPost\n\nfrom wordpress_xmlrpc.methods import posts<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_To_Log_Into_Your_WordPress_Website\"><\/span>How To Log Into Your WordPress Website<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to write posts via Python, your script needs to log in and be authenticated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several secure ways to do this that are recommended if you are running your script on a server. They include installing an authentication plugin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As I was running my script locally against a test website, I didn\u2019t go to these lengths. You can pass a username and password for your WordPress website straight from your script.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I should mention that this isn\u2019t very secure, but it\u2019s certainly the easiest way to get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The single line below will log into your website and lets you access posts and other WordPress features. Substitute these items:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Your domain name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>WordPress login<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>WordPress password<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>wp = Client('https:\/\/yourdomain.com\/xmlrpc.php', 'username', 'password\u2019)<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Setting_Up_The_Post_Title_And_Category\"><\/span>Setting Up The Post Title And Category<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After authentication, the next lines of code create a WordPress post object and sets the title and category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This creates the post object:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>post = WordPressPost()<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that this isn\u2019t creating a post on WordPress. You are just creating an object in Python.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Post Title<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The next line sets the title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that when you set the title, you don\u2019t need to start with a H1 in your content (we\u2019ll get to the content later). Otherwise, you\u2019ll end up with two H1s in the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>post.title = f'Your Post Title'<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Post Category<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can set both categories and tags, but I don\u2019t use tags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This line sets the category of the post. If you don\u2019t set one, then WordPress puts it into the default category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>post.terms_names = {'category': &#91;'name-of-category']}<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Create_A_Post_In_WordPress_Using_Python\"><\/span>Create A Post In WordPress Using Python<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you\u2019ve got a post title and category, you have the bare minimum to create a post on your WordPress installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Actually, you don\u2019t even need to set the category!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But wait, what about the content? I\u2019ll get to that in the next section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, we\u2019ll create a bare-bones post. This is all that you need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>post.id = wp.call(NewPost(post))<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>I established the variable \u201cwp\u201d earlier as the authenticated object. The NewPost() function adds the post to your WordPress website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each post has a unique ID, which is returned by the function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you log into your WordPress dashboard manually and refresh the \u201cAll Posts\u201d tab, you should see a new post in draft mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Draft or published post?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I deliberately left the post in draft mode. You can choose to publish the post immediately, but that may not be advisable when you\u2019re trying out the code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But what if you want to publish it? Add these two lines after the NewPost() call. The EditPost() function requires the unique post ID, which is why I grabbed it earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>post.post_status = 'publish'\n\nwp.call(posts.EditPost(post.id, post))<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Writing_Simple_Content_With_Python\"><\/span>Writing Simple Content With Python<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/python-wordpress-xmlrpc.readthedocs.io\/en\/latest\/examples\/posts.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">simple examples<\/a> I found online had a single line of text to form the content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It would be something like this before you call the NewPost() function above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>post.content = 'Hello World.'\n\npost.id = wp.call(NewPost(post))<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>This kind of example left me wondering how to deal with subheadings (H2\/H3) and other elements.
